Satellite telemetry studies of movement patterns of flying foxes.

An 18g solar powered PTT and collarThis is a longitudinal observational study. Nine healthy mature male black flying foxes (P. alecto) caught in northern Australia will be fitted with 18g Platform Transmitter Terminals (PTT) manufactured by Microwave Telemetry. Because large scale movements are the primary interest, the PTTs will be programmed with a duty cycle of 12 hours on and approximately 156 hours off, providing once-weekly location fixes. The CLS Argos System, which uses receivers onboard National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) satellites, will be used to receive transmissions. Photo: D. Babski.
